Hangar Hotel

We can safely say that the Hangar Hotel is the coolest place just outside of Austin that you don’t know about yet. Thank goodness we are about to change that.

Located in Fredericksburg, roughly an hour-and-a-half outside of Austin, the exterior of the building was built in the appearance of a WWII hangar of the romantic 1940s. The decor is fitting, as the hotel is adjacent to the runway ramp area of the Gillespie County Airport. Its location provides excellent viewing of planes during takeoff and landing.

What you may not know, is that Fredericksburg has an early aviation and rich military past, and this 50-room hotel pays homage to those roots. It also looks to recreate the romanticism of the period, and the observation deck was created for immersing yourself in the era. The Hangar Hotel features airplane memorabilia, model planes and USO history. A short walk takes you next door to both the Airport Diner and the Conference Center.

The Hangar Hotel features events of their own, such as their famous USO Dances featuring Bill Smallwood and The Lonestar Swing Orchestra, but it is available to host private events. They require you use in-house catering and beverage services and the can accommodate up to 300 guests. The Pacific Showroom can hold 215, which the Conference Center has a capacity of 300. They also offer handicap accessibility, onsite accommodations and an indoor reception area.

Friday or Saturday: $2,500

Pacific Showroom (10,000 sq ft)
All Days: $3,500

Rental prices include the use of tables, matching chairs, sound system, projection screen and podium, as needed.

The Pacific Showroom’s highlight is their air conditioned dance floor and relaxed, cocktail seating among giant palm trees and tropical floral arrangements, with 50 foot by 16 foot hand painted murals adorning the walls. This means that in accordance with the theme of the Hangar Hotel, its goal is to transport you to another place and time.

Guests appreciate the experience of going back in time and note the secluded feeling of the space. It’s been called “a great retro hotel but with all of the conveniences” and is perfect for aviation and history buffs alike.
