The Dogwood

Named for an iconic tree, The Dogwood not only represents the owners’ Southern hospitality and affinity for outdoor entertaining; it is also their grandmother’s favorite tree. This melding of family tradition gives off a familiar feeling the second you step foot into this ‘homegrown’ bar.

The Dogwood was built as an open-concept, and they bring the outside-inside with touches such as natural stone and wood running throughout the interior. All of this leads you to their open-air patio, which is a favorite among patrons who note it as the “main attraction.” Their patio has a large stage, as well, where you can enjoy live music and the Austin outdoors all at the same time.

As for event space, The Dogwood has private, secluded space available. This space includes a sliding glass partition and has its own audio/video source, bathrooms and complete privacy when needed. The most popular option for events, however, is to rent out of the entire indoor portion of the venue, complete with their 80 foot bar. It can accommodate up to 175 guests and there is no rental fee, though they do require a minimum food and beverage spend (not including sales tax and gratuity). This is important to note and discuss as you make your rental reservation.

Should you not need as much privacy for your event, another option is to reserve a section of tables on their open-air patio for free. All that you need for this is a reservation and The Dogwood can provide wristbands so servers can easily distinguish your party. Additionally, food tables can be set up within your reserved section, keeping your party contained and giving it a more intimate feel.

The Dogwood has an extensive catering menu, offering Snacks and Hors d’Oeurves, A la Carte or Full Meal Packages, depending upon your needs. Patrons recommend their Queso Blanco (found on their Snacks and Hors d’Oeurves menu), Chicken and Waffle Sliders (found on their A la Carte menu) and brisket (found in their Full Meal Barbecue Package). Their menus have items that suit any taste. You can wash down your meal with local Deep Eddy Sweet Tea Vodka, poured straight from a frosted ice tap at the bar.

The Dogwood is the perfect place to enjoy outdoor living with friends—with a few breaks from the Austin heat to enjoy their large indoor space—and watch people on West Sixth Street. It is important to note that The Dogwood enforces a dress code—no flip flops, for example—enforced at the door upon checking IDs.
